Jan Čonka was born in 1999. He has been playing guitar since he was seven years old. After graduating from the Conservatory in Pardubice, where he studied under the guidance of Anna Hronova, he continued his bachelor studies at HAMU in the class of doc. Petr Saidl. He is a versatile performer who applies his musicality and excellent playing technique not only as a soloist in the field of classical music. He has won numerous awards at major guitar competitions. Recent ones include the International Biennial Performance Competition in Kutná Hora, where he won 3rd place and the prize for the best Czech participant, the Visegrad Guitar Competition 2021, where he was the winner of the highest category up to the age of 27 in a competition of 21 countries, and 3rd place at the International Guitar Competition Guitar talent Brno 2021. His other competition achievements include the award of the Minister of Education of the Czech Republic Prize for 2021. His other competition successes include 2nd prize at the Bremen Guitar Art Youth Competition in Germany in 2020, 1st prize and laureate title at the International Ivan Balla Guitar Competition in Dolný Kubín in 2019, 1st prize and audience prize at the SAI International Guitar Competition, 1st prize and absolute winner at the Competition of Conservatories and Music Grammar Schools of the Czech Republic, and 2nd prize and best Czech participant prize at the International Biennial of the Performing Guitar Competition in Kutná Hora in 2019. In 2016 he won two 2nd prizes - at the L. Luthier International Guitar Competition in Bratislava and at the Cithara Ignea International Guitar Competition in Poland.
